Go to The Edge!
The Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk, located in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales is one of Australia’s premier rainforest experiences. The elevated steel walkway features two gently swaying cantilevered arms and a central spiral tower raised nearly fifty meters off the forest floor. The stunning views take in everything from the rainforest canopy to Lake Illawarra and out to the South Pacific Ocean.
The gentle 1.5k return walk commences on the rainforest floor and continues onto the steel walkway and into the forest canopy offering a unique experience that captures the beauty of the regions native fauna and flora. Visitors have the opportunity to see native fauna including wombats, lyrebirds, echidnas, sugar gliders and the Dusky antechinus.
Spectacular guided sunrise walks take place on the second Saturday of every month and early bird visitors are rewarded with a hot breakfast in the café on return.
The Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk is one of only a handful of steel canopy walks in the world and the only one in New South Wales. It was constructed with minimal impact to the natural forest floor and has many environmentally sustainable features including a rain water and septic tank system; recycling of all waste and cooking products, a forest floor regeneration program and rainforest education programs.
Lunch and refreshments are available at Café 106 in the Visitors Centre and courtesy buggies are available for those who require it.
The Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk is located 1.5hours from Sydney and 2 hours from Canberra making it an ideal day trip. Open every day from 9am to 5pm except Christmas Day.
